Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called on the nation to stand united behind a landmark reform aimed at expanding women’s participation in India’s democratic system. Addressing the Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan in New Delhi, the Prime Minister described the upcoming move as one of the most transformative decisions of the 21st century, one that will significantly enhance the role of women in governance.
He highlighted that women, often referred to as Nari Shakti, have made remarkable contributions to the nation through dedication, courage, and determination. He noted that India’s progress is closely tied to the empowerment of women and said that expanding their participation in decision-making will strengthen the democratic framework of the country.
The Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam, a landmark step toward ensuring greater representation for women in legislative bodies. He said that after decades of discussion and expectation, the country is now close to making this long-awaited change a reality.
He further noted that women have played a crucial role in India’s journey—from the freedom struggle to the shaping of the nation’s Constitution. Whether serving in local bodies or holding high constitutional positions, women have consistently contributed to national development and strengthened the country’s social fabric.
Speaking at the event, Union Minister for Women and Child Development Annapurna Devi said the legislation represents not just political empowerment but also recognition of women’s strength and capabilities. She said that women are increasingly taking on leadership roles across various sectors and contributing to national growth.
Meanwhile, Rekha Gupta, Chief Minister of Delhi, said that India is entering a new phase of women-led development. She stated that government initiatives aimed at supporting education, financial independence, and equal opportunity for women are helping millions of families across the country.
The Prime Minister urged women to actively participate in the democratic process and work alongside policymakers to shape India’s future. He said that when women are empowered, the nation moves forward with greater strength and balance.
