Uttarakhand has published its final electoral roll following the Special Intensive Revision, with election authorities also beginning a follow-up exercise to identify eligible citizens who appeared in the earlier roll but are missing from the revised list. The Chief Electoral Officer’s official SIR page records the final-roll press note dated October 3.
What changed after the revision
News reports say the final roll contains about 71.6 lakh electors, compared with roughly 79.6 lakh before the revision. The numerical difference should not automatically be described as the number of eligible voters wrongly removed. Revision exercises can exclude entries for multiple reasons, and the eligibility of an individual citizen must be determined through the electoral-registration process.
Follow-up identification exercise
Election officials have been instructed to compare the earlier and final rolls and help locate people who may still be eligible but are not presently enrolled. Booth Level Officers can assist with the prescribed registration process. Reports indicate that the special SIR declaration previously used alongside Form 6 is not required in the same manner for the post-SIR continuous-updation process.
For an individual voter, the first step is straightforward: check the current electoral roll through an official election website or local election office. Possession of an EPIC card is useful identification, but citizens should still confirm that their name appears on the operative roll.
How an eligible voter can respond
A citizen whose name is missing can seek inclusion using the applicable Election Commission form and provide the required information to the Electoral Registration Officer. Applicants should keep their reference number and check the final decision rather than assuming submission itself completes enrolment.
The Election Commission’s broader special-drive instruction covers states and Union Territories where SIR has been completed. Uttarakhand is therefore both a state-specific voter-service story and part of a wider effort to facilitate enrolment after the revision process.
