Union ministries and departments are preparing for Special Campaign 6, a month-long drive scheduled from October 2 to 31, 2026. The Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances is the nodal department. Its September 26 release says the preparation period began on September 16 and is due to end on September 30.
What departments are preparing
Offices are identifying pending references, selecting sites for cleanliness work, reviewing records and assessing electronic waste for disposal. Departments have named nodal officers at attached and subordinate offices, public-sector undertakings and autonomous bodies, according to the release. Targets for the preparatory phase are to be uploaded to a dedicated monitoring portal.
A second meeting of nodal officers was chaired by DARPG Secretary Nivedita Shukla Verma. The department says more than 40 senior officers attended in person and over 800 joined virtually from more than 500 locations, representing 84 ministries and departments along with associated organisations. These participation numbers describe the review meeting, not completed public-service outcomes.
Why the drive matters
Pending correspondence and poor record management can affect the speed and traceability of decisions in public offices. The campaign’s stated aims include disposal of pending matters, better use of office space, preservation of historical records and appropriate handling of electronic waste. The release does not promise that any particular citizen application or grievance will be settled during October.
Several departments presented experience from the previous campaign and plans for this one. The government says a compilation of good practices will be prepared for Good Governance Week 2026. That planned publication may help the public compare examples, but the September release does not provide final, independently verified results for Campaign 6.
What comes next
Departments are expected to finalise and upload targets before the October implementation period. Citizens should continue to use the relevant department’s official grievance or application channel for their own cases. Later progress reports will show whether the drive reduced pending work, improved record handling and met the targets that ministries set.
