Tamil Nadu politics has taken a dramatic turn after a surprising statement from DMK leader and former Chief Minister M. K. Stalin regarding actor-turned-politician Vijay and his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). At a time when speculation was growing about possible political alliances to stop TVK from forming the government, Stalin’s latest remarks have completely changed the political narrative in the state.
Following the Tamil Nadu Assembly election results, the political atmosphere has remained tense and uncertain. Vijay’s TVK managed to secure impressive results in its first major electoral battle but reportedly fell short of the clear majority needed to independently form the government. This triggered intense discussions about whether rival parties such as the DMK and AIADMK would come together to block TVK from taking power.
However, Stalin’s comments during a recent interview have now put an end to many of those rumors. The DMK chief announced that his party is willing to support the formation of a TVK-led government in the interest of political stability and democratic values. He stated that Tamil Nadu does not need another election or a constitutional crisis immediately after a heated election season.
According to Stalin, the DMK would allow Vijay’s government to function without political obstruction for at least six months. He said the people of Tamil Nadu have delivered their verdict and it should be respected. His remarks are now being widely discussed across political circles and social media platforms, with many calling it one of the biggest political surprises in recent Tamil Nadu history.
Political analysts believe Stalin’s decision could be a strategic move. Some experts feel that allowing TVK to govern will test the party’s administrative capabilities and public promises. Others believe the DMK wants to project itself as a mature political force that prioritizes stability over immediate political gains.
During the interview, Stalin also requested Vijay to continue the welfare schemes introduced during the DMK government’s tenure. He specifically mentioned the free breakfast scheme for school students and the “Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thogai” scheme, which provides monthly financial assistance to women. Stalin emphasized that these programs have benefited lakhs of families across Tamil Nadu and should not be discontinued under the new administration.
Stalin also commented on some of TVK’s major election promises. Referring to Vijay’s assurance of providing Rs. 2,500 monthly financial support to women, he said implementing such a large-scale scheme may not be financially easy. However, he added that at least the existing Rs. 1,000 assistance scheme should continue for the welfare of women.
The former Chief Minister further questioned the practicality of TVK’s promise to provide six free LPG cylinders annually to families. He said such promises sound attractive during campaigns but can become difficult to implement once a government takes charge. Still, he stated that if TVK succeeds in delivering those promises, the DMK would welcome it positively.
Stalin’s statement has now sparked fresh political discussions in Tamil Nadu. Many observers see it as an indirect indication that there will be no DMK-AIADMK alliance against TVK. Instead, the focus has now shifted to how Vijay and his party respond to this unexpected support. With the possibility of a TVK-led government becoming stronger, all eyes are now on Vijay’s next political move and whether his party can meet the massive expectations of the people.
