Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has directed energy officials to take steps toward full-scale generation at the Yadadri thermal power plant before Dasara. The supply question
Officials told the review that Singareni does not have blocks producing the required G-9 coal and is not expected to produce it in the near future, the state release says. The chief minister asked the deputy chief minister to discuss coal availability with Union Coal Minister G. Kishan Reddy. Officials were also directed to begin procurement steps involving Mahanadi Coalfields and Coal India.
A direction to initiate procurement is not confirmation that a supply contract has been signed or that the plant is already running at full capacity. The government has set a deadline tied to Dasara, and progress will depend on the actual fuel supply and operational readiness. The release does not quantify the additional power that would become available by that date.
Questions raised at the review
The chief minister and deputy chief minister questioned the plant’s original siting and its dependence on a coal grade that officials said Singareni cannot currently supply. The state account records those questions but does not publish the underlying engineering assessments or a fresh independent cost study. The immediate operational issue in the meeting was how to obtain suitable coal and increase generation.
The review also covered uninterrupted electricity for lift irrigation pumps, generation from other thermal units and purchases to meet current state demand. Those issues can affect farmers and households as well as state finances. The release sets out government instructions but contains no new tariff order or announced change to consumer bills.
