More than 30 lakh electors in Telangana who received notices during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls were yet to appear for hearings as of September 29, according to data attributed to the office of the Chief Electoral Officer. The development puts renewed focus on voter awareness as the claims and objections phase approaches its October 7 deadline.
The CEO data reported that 61,87,444 hearings had been conducted and that 48,88,076 electors had been found eligible. The numbers are significant because the revision process determines the accuracy of the electoral register that citizens rely on to exercise their franchise. Voters who have received a notice should rely on official election authorities for their individual case status and documentary requirements rather than political claims or unverified social-media messages.
Why the deadline matters
The claims and objections window is designed to give electors an opportunity to seek inclusion, correction or restoration where necessary. The final electoral rolls are scheduled for publication on November 9. Until the statutory process is completed, figures about notices or hearings should not automatically be interpreted as final deletions from the roll.
The revision has become politically contentious, with parties raising competing claims about its implementation. Those claims remain separate from the administrative process. For voters, the practical issue is whether their name and particulars are correctly reflected in the roll and whether any notice requiring a response has been addressed.
What voters should do
Electors should check their status through official Election Commission and CEO channels, keep acknowledgement records for any application submitted, and attend a hearing when formally required. Citizens should also verify booth and constituency details once the final roll is published.
The next documented milestones are the end of claims and objections on October 7 and publication of the final roll on November 9. Election authorities may issue additional procedural instructions before those dates.
Voter relevance
An accurate electoral roll is the basic administrative gateway to voting. The remaining hearing workload makes timely participation important, while due process requires that individual eligibility decisions be made under election law and communicated through official channels.
